Game of Thrones stars Kit Harington and Rose Leslie - who played on-screen lovers in the TV drama - have married in Scotland.

The Press Association reports that the actors, both 31, held the ceremony in Leslie’s 12th-century family castle on Saturday. A date of 23 June was previously posted at Huntly registration office in Aberdeenshire.

Harington: "If you’re already attracted to someone, and then they play your love interest in the show, it becomes very easy to fall in love."

Fans of Game Of Thrones gathered outside Wardhill Castle in Aberdeenshire hoping to catch a glimpse of the couple.

GoT cast members Peter Dinklage, Sophie Turner, Emilia Clarke and Maisie Williams all attended the ceremony.

Speaking outside the castle, where the pair exchanged vows, Leslie’s father, Sebastian Leslie, said: "We are absolutely thrilled for Kit and Rose to be marrying today."

He added: "It’s an absolutely lovely day for us. It’s a great day for Aberdeenshire. We are using local caterers, local lighting, local flowers."

The couple met in 2012 while filming Game of Thrones, in which they played Jon Snow and Ygritte.

They announced their engagement in the London Times last year.

Harrington had told Game of Thrones producers that they were going to have to shut down filming for a day or two in order to make sure everyone could attend Saturday's wedding.

"I rang up (the producer) and I said, "I’m getting married and it’s your fault actually... ', I think for the final season he is so stressed that he’s reached that peaceful level," Harrington told Jonathan Ross last year. "They (the cast) have all got to be there so the whole thing has got to shut down."

Leslie, who began dating Harington four years ago, is a descendant of King Charles II and the 12th-century castle, which is now a popular wedding venue and private hotel, has been owned by her family for the past 900 years.

The bride wore a long-sleeve ivory lace wedding dress, a white flower crown and cathedral veil and carried a bouquet of white roses. Harington wore a long black jacket over a cream vest, white shirt, black tie and gray pinstriped pants.

Leslie, who now stars in legal drama The Good Fight, left Game of Thrones two years after they met, while Harington has become one of the show’s most popular stars.

Speaking to L’Uomo Vogue, Harington said it was "easy" to fall in love with Leslie and his best memory of the show was meeting his future partner while filming in Iceland.

"The country is beautiful … the northern lights are magical … it was there that I fell in love," he said. "If you’re already attracted to someone, and then they play your love interest in the show, it becomes very easy to fall in love."

Leslie said she had been too busy to plan the wedding, telling Town & Country magazine: "I haven’t tackled it. There’s just too much to do."
