It is reported that Coronation Street's unlucky-in-love Sophie Webster could be set for a change in her fortunes in an upcoming storyline on the ITV soap.

British tabloid The Sun claims that romance will blossom for Sophie (played by Brooke Vincent) at the unlikeliest of times: when her mother Sally seeks legal help after mistakenly giving charity funds to a fraudster.

The female lawyer - an old friend of Sally's (played by Sally Dynevor) - soon falls for Sophie.

Sally will reportedly be "livid about the age gap and brands her friend a cradle-snatcher"

"Sophie hasn't had much luck with romance on the cobbles, but it appears this time it's finally going in the right direction for her," a source told The Sun.

"She allows herself to start falling in love with the lawyer, but Sally is furious when her friend tells her she has feelings for her daughter.

"She's livid about the age gap and brands her friend a cradle-snatcher."

Sophie was previously in a relationship with Kate Connor (played by Faye Brookes)

Sophie's previous romance with fellow Weatherfield resident Kate Connor finished earlier this year. In 2011, her wedding to Sian Powers ended in heartbreak on their big day when Sian discovered that Sophie had kissed straight friend Amber.

Sian Powers (played by Sacha Parkinson) left Weatherfield heartbroken when she discovered Sophie had kissed Amber

Coronation Street was the big winner at this year's British Soap Awards at the weekend, winning six in total, including the coveted Best Soap Award.

Coronation Street airs on TV3 and ITV on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
