Brian Wilson postpones May dates due to back surgery

Brian Wilson, who is scheduled to play Dublin on August 22. is postponing his May tour dates so he can undergo back surgery. 

The 75-year-old Beach Boy apologised "for any inconvenience this may cause" and said his "agents are already in the process of rescheduling," as reported by Rolling Stone.

"We will have some of the make-up dates to announce very soon," the musician added. "Please know that the music is in my heart and in my soul and me and the boys are looking forward to performing for you very soon."

Wilson has said that he is having more fun on the road than ever, and he still gets emotional when he hears the revered Beach Boys album, Pet Sounds.

"As some of you might know, I have been having some issues with my back that have very recently gotten worse," Wilson said on Twitter.

"It runs in my family; Carl (his brother) had back problems as well. My doctors have told me that I need to have back surgery immediately. They are optimistic that this will finally relieve the pain."

The Beach Boys scored nine consecutive Gold albums in the USA fifty years ago, featuring hits that are played to this day on radio around the world, pop gems such as Surfer Girl, In My Room, I Get Around, Don’t Worry Baby, Fun, Fun, Fun, Help Me Rhonda, California Girls and many more.

Wilson co-wrote, arranged, produced and performed on more than than two dozen of such Top 40 hits with the Beach Boys. The iconic musician is scheduled to play Dublin venue, Vicar Street on Tuesday August 21 and Wednesday August 22.
