Coronation Street villain Pat Phelan dominates the nominations list for this year's British Soap Awards.

The evil builder, played by Connor McIntyre, terrorised Weatherfield over the past year. He was part of some of the soap's darkest moments, including the imprisonment and subsequent murder of Andy Carver. He also killed Luke Britton who threatened to uncover his dastardly deeds.

McIntyre has received best actor and best male dramatic performance nods for the role, while Phelan's reign of terror is up for best storyline and the character has also been listed for villain of the year.

Corrie's Jack P Shepherd also nominated for best actor

The hotly contested best actor category will see McIntyre compete against his Corrie co-star Jack P Shepherd, who has received praise from viewers for his sensitive portrayal of his character David Platt's male sexual assault

Emmerdale stars Ryan Hawley, who plays Robert Sugden and Michael Parr, who plays Ross Barton and Hollyoaks' Theo Graham, who plays Hunter McQueen, make up the rest of the shortlist.

Coronation Street's Catherine Tyldesley among best actress nominees

Two of Coronation Street's leading stars - Catherine Tyldesley who portrays Eva Price and Lucy Fallon who plays Bethany Platt- will compete for the best actress gong alongside EastEnders' Lacey Turner, who plays Stacey Fowler, Emmerdale's Emma Atkins who portrays Charity Dingle and Hollyoaks actress Anna Passey who plays Sienna Blake.

Emmerdale will try to retain the title of Best British Soap when it goes up against Coronation Street, EastEnders, Hollyoaks and Doctors for the coveted award which is decided by viewers.

The British Soap Awards will take place in London on June 2 with Phillip Schofield hosting.
