Coronation Street actress Julia Goulding has said her character Shona Ramsay is "gunning for" Josh Tucker after she finds out he sexually assaulted her boyfriend David Platt.

David (Jack P Shepherd) has been distancing himself from Shona and struggling to cope after he was raped by Josh (Ryan Clayton) after they went out together on a night of drinking.

David finally admitted to his estranged girlfriend that he was assaulted and Goulding says it hit Shona "like a brick wall".

The actress said the scenes with Jack P Shepherd were "really emotional" to film.

David admits to Shona that he was sexually assaulted by Josh

"Jack and I really get on and we usually have a laugh when the cameras aren’t rolling but it was a very sombre environment", Goulding said.

"The crew were amazing and gave us space and time because with such raw emotional you need something that is very real. I am looking forward to seeing the scenes."

Goulding explained that although Shona respects that David doesn't want to go to the police, she can't help but take matters "into her own hands".

The Corrie star says that Shona can't control her fury at Josh after finding out about the sexual assault, and confronts the mechanic.

Shona confronts Josh and tells him she knows he assaulted David

"She tries her best to encourage him to speak but he will not so the next time she sees Josh, her emotions get the better of her and she tells him she knows that he raped David", Goulding said.

"She’s infuriated because he claims it was a consensual, one night stand and he is very casual about it. Josh knows Shona has rumbled him and Shona knows that Josh is lying but she has to control her anger because if she actually did what she wanted to do to him I think she would be on a murder charge."

Goulding added that Shona is "a very determined person" and becomes a bit of a "Sherlock Shona" to try and dig up some dirt and Josh and prove that he assaulted David.

She said Josh has reason to be scared of Shona as "she is absolutely gunning for him."

"If I was Josh I’d be absolutely petrified because he has hurt the person she loves most. She’s after justice for David."

The soap star said that the storyline has been difficult to film as her "own feelings have come in to a lot of this".

"I find myself getting frustrated because Ryan Clayton is doing such a fantastic job playing Josh!", she said.

"The anger, frustration and injustice is very easy to play and really easy to portray because it is such a horrific subject. Getting myself in to that worked up stage isn’t too difficult but shaking off is a little bit harder."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on TV3 and UTV.
