If you're going no further than the sofa, here are some tips on what's worth watching on the box over the weekend. As ever, it’s a busy one...

Pick of the weekend

National Treasures, 6.30pm Sunday, RTÉ One

The National Treasures team hits Galway for the final roadshow, selecting the pieces that will make it into the exhibition at the National Museum of Ireland - Country Life.

The remaining objects need to be selected for the exhibition in advance of its launch in the National Museum of Ireland.

Some truly fascinating objects are revealed this week including a women’s voting slip from 1918 and a piece of the first ever airplane to complete a transatlantic flight.

New or Returning Shows

Our Wildest Dreams, 8.00pm Friday, Channel 4

This new series follows British families as they leave the UK, making life-changing moves and starting from scratch in some of the most remote places on earth.

In the first episode, ex-businesswoman Mari leaves her home in Greenwich, overlooking the skyscrapers of London's Canary Wharf, for a new life in Ecuador, and a distant, isolated corner of the Amazon.

Super Duper Alice Cooper, 9.00pm Saturday, Sky Arts

This is a 2014 Canadian biographical documentary film about shock rock musician Alice Cooper, written and directed by Sam Dunn, Scot McFadyen and Reginald Harkema.

In addition to narration by Cooper, the film includes commentary from people who have known, worked with or been influenced by him, including his wife Sheryl Cooper, his mother Ella Furnier, concert promoter Jack Curtis, former bandmates Dennis Dunaway and Neal Smith, producer Bob Ezrin, Elton John, John Lydon and Iggy Pop.

Civilisations on Your Doorstep, 9.00pm Saturday, BBC Two

From Roman marbles and Egyptian mummies to Renaissance masterpieces and African sculptures, in this special accompanying programme to Civilisations, Mary Beard goes in search of extraordinary works of art from all over the world that can be seen in Britain.

Starting with the last surviving cabinet of curiosities from the 17th-century, she will then tell the story of how the collections came together, and what these collections represented and who they were for.

Rachel Allen: A Cook's Adventure, 8.00pm Sunday, More4

Rachel Allen's on a mission to source and cook the best culinary delights that Northern Ireland has to offer.

She begins her journey in Down, where she meets fishermen in Portavogie, bakers in Newtownards, an off-grid farm in the Mourne Mountains and goes foraging with a Michelin-starred chef at Mount Stewart, a grand 19th-century house.

In Fermanagh she visits a pig Island in Enniskillen and beef producers in Lisnaskea and finally, in Armagh, calls to an apple orchard in Portadown.

Jeff Beck: Still on the Run, 9.00pm Friday, BBC Four

A new documentary about legendary British rock guitarist and former Yardbird Jeff Beck, who's probably best known for his 1960s' hit, Hi Ho Silver Lining.

The film includes interviews with Beck himself, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Slash, David Gilmour, Ronnie Wood, Joe Perry, Jan Hammer, Beth Hart, Carmen Vanderberg and Rosie Bones.

Performance Live: Akala Presents The Ruins of Empires, 10.30pm Saturday, BBC Two

The Ruins Of Empires is part of Performance Live strand on BBC Two, which aims to showcase some of the most exciting artists working in performance today.

Introduced by Daniel Kaluuya, this innovative performance by Hip Hop artist and writer Akala is an abridged version of his epic poem of the same name and is a personal interpretation of history as told through the 'knowledge seeker'.

Ending this weekend

The City and the City, 9.00pm Friday, BBC Two

It's the final episode of this adaptation of China Miéville’s award-winning, sci-fi/detective-fiction hybrid, starring David Morrisey as gruff cop Inspector Tyador Borlú.

Borlú wakes up in the custody of Breach. They want Borlú to continue his investigation and to find the answers to their questions.

Does the elusive third city of Orciny truly exist? What did Mahalia discover and why was she killed? And what is the connection between this case and Katrynia?

Borlú is determined to find the answers and discover the truth about what happened to his wife.

My Year with the Tribe, 9.00pm Sunday, BBC Two

Will returns for his final two trips to Korowai territory, to try and find August and his family, keen to spend time with them too, to better understand how most Korowai live today.

But when he gets to their village, they are nowhere to be found - apparently they have gone to a 'grub fest' two days walk away in the forest.

Lee and Dean, 110.00pm Friday, Channel 4

In the final episode of the comedy about builders Lee (Miles Chapman) and Dean (Mark O'Sullivan), Mrs Bryce-D'Souza (Anna Morris) organises an afternoon in a select spa for Nikki's (Camille Ucan) hen do.

Meanwhile Lee and the boys are drinking their own body weight in lager on his stag weekend. When the stags and hens end up at the same low-rent nightclub, all the secrets, truths and lies are revealed.

New to Download

Bobby Kennedy for President, from Friday, Netflix

This docuseries examines the 'Bobby Phenomenon' of the 1960s and the continuing influence of the man many see as the greatest loss of a turbulent era.

The series is timed to correspond with the 50th anniversary of (JFK's brother) Robert Kennedy’s 83-day presidential run, which officially began on March 16, 1968, and ended with his assassination at Los Angeles’ Ambassador Hotel barely three months later.

3%: Season 2, from Friday, Netflix

As the next Process nears, the Cause plots to wipe out the system once and for all, and Michele finds herself in a precarious position.

Candy Jar, from Friday, Netflix

An introverted high school girl from a working-class background falls in love with her wealthy debate team nemesis and realizes they share more in common than they thought.

The Week Of, from Friday, Netflix

Starring Adam Sandler and Chris Rock, this comedy centres on the week leading up to the wedding of their characters' kids.

Ireland's Deep Atlantic, 9.30pm Sunday, RTÉ One

With the help of whale scientist and ocean acoustics expert, Dr Joanne O’Brien, Ken O'Sullivan sets out to find Blue Whales and Sperm Whales and document these animals so as to help conserve them.

If he can find animals in different parts of the North Atlantic and match them with photo identification, he could confirm migrations routes, which would be a giant step in the conservation of these massively endangered animals.

Chat Show Line-ups

The Late Late Show, 9.35pm Friday, RTÉ One

There's a debate on the upcoming referendum, but the night's guests will include Debbie McGee, the wife of the late magician Paul Daniels, Irish jockey Davy Russell and Kerry actress Jessie Buckley.

There will also be music from Miles Graham and Something Happens.

Among the guests on Graham's sofa are Pirates of the Carribean and Lord of the Rings star Orlando Bloom, who is on the West End stage in Killer Joe and comedian Stephen Merchant who is voicing new animation Sherlock Gnomes. Plus music from SuRie, performing the UK's Eurovision entry Storm.

The Ray D'Arcy Show, 10.05pm Saturday, RTÉ One

Ray D’Arcy talks to 43-year-old Limerick woman Vicky Phelan who is terminally ill with cervical cancer following missed diagnosis in 2011. Also on the show is best-selling author and raconteur Michael Harding, plus Wedding Planner Peter Kelly aka Franc.

Little Miss Sunshine, 11.55pm Friday, RTÉ One

Road trip movie don't come much better – or quirkier – than this, the directorial debut of the husband-wife team of Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris.

It boast a fine ensemble cast that includes Greg Kinnear, Steve Carell, Toni Collette, Paul Dano, Abigail Breslin, and Alan Arkin.

A family is determined to get their young daughter into the finals of a beauty pageant and take a trans-USA trip in their Scooby Doo-like Volks Wagen camper van/bus.

Sherlock Holmes, 9.35pm Friday, RTÉ 2

This is just so much fun, and it's visually stunning as Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law combine to great effect as the legendary Holmes and Watson.

Sure, Guy Ritchie's direction is an odd fit, but it all works so well as the Baker Street boys take on the evil Lord Henry Blackwood, an aristocratic serial killer dabbling in the occult, delightfully played by Mark Strong.

Box Set Binge

Suits season 1-6, Netflix

Seeing as that royal wedding business is finally on the way, you can see what Meghan Markle got up to before and after she met one of the Windsor family.

This fluffy legal drama starts off with former student Mike Ross (Patrick J Adams), who stumbles into a job interview with legal sharpie Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht).

Mike lands the job, even though Mike doesn't have a licence to practice law.
