Fair City star Victor Burke has said he has been "really shocked" by the show's latest storyline, which has seen his character, Wayne, discovering Karen wounded on the floor of his kitchen.

Wednesday night's episode on RTÉ One ended with Karen lying on the floor with a wound and the word "slut" written in lipstick on the fridge.

Wayne is terrified as he doesn't know if she's unconscious or dead.

"I was really shocked when I read the scripts for the episodes this week," said Burke. "All the cast and crew have really pulled out all the stops to create what we hope will be a great storyline for our audience.

"Wayne's had a tough week of it with Karen kissing him in Sunday's episode and his wife and the whole community wondering if he and Karen have been having an affair behind Orla's back."

Burke teased that the storyline will have plenty of twists along the way.

"The way that events unfold will have long-reaching effects for Wayne, Orla, Junior and the wider Carrigstown community at large..." he said.

Fair City continues on RTÉ One on Thursday at 8.00pm. Catch up on the drama over on the RTÉ Player.
