Lady Bird star Saoirse Ronan has told RTÉ News on the Oscars red carpet that "it's one of those films that needed to come out at the right time for people to really embrace it".
"It just feels like this was the moment for it to come out and it just feels like the stars sort of aligned," she told RTÉ News' Washington Correspondent, Brian O'Donovan.
Ronan, who is nominated for Best Actress, described Lady Bird's Oscar-nominated writer-director Greta Gerwig as "brilliant".

"She's done so much great work already but getting to be part of her first official movie on her own was an honour because I've always been a fan of her work," Ronan continued.
"I think she's one of those film makers that people always expect her to do clever, great stuff because she's brilliant."
