The first film by Simon Schama in this landmark new series looks at the formative role art and the creative imagination have played in the forging of humanity itself.
Schama explores the remote origins of human creativity with the first known marks made some 80,000 years ago in South African caves.
He also travels to the civilisations of Petra in the Middle East and the Maya in Central America.

George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces, 8.00pm, Channel 4
Architect Clarke closes his run by visiting a London tailor who is creating a studio space in his garden which he hopes will impress his clients.
Then it’s off to Bristol to meet a tram building a cabin in a crane, and finally he visits a Tokyo capsule hotel that almost defines claustrophobia.
The Orville, 9.00pm, Fox
Seth McFarlane’s humorous homage to Star Trek boldly ends its first season where no first season has gone before, with a crash-landing on a planet that forms another universe.
Meanwhile, Ed and Kelly reconsider getting back together again.
