Okay, you're snowed-in at home and there's only one thing to do: watch loads of telly! John Byrne guides you through some of what's available either on demand or live.
Box Sets
Loads of options from both Sky Box Sets and Netflix, but here are some recommendations:
Sky Box Sets
Drama: Nashville (smart soap with Stetsons), Criminal Minds (case of the week show), Cold Feet (classic dramedy), Gomorrah (Italian gangsters), Six Feet Under (smart stuff about living and dying), Dexter (a serial killer you'll like), Broadchurch (deadly drama with Olivia Colman and David Tennent), Deadwood (foul-mouthed western), Fortitude (psychological thriller), Legion (bonkers superhero drama).
Comedy: Divorce (Sharon Horgan's dramedy), Scrubs (classic sitcom), Catastrophe (more Sharon Horgan – except she's in this), Girls (zeitgeisty dramedy), Black Books (hilarious sitcom starring Dylan Moran), Shameless (foul-mouthed fun), Back (starring Peep Show lads), The IT Crowd (hi-tech office comedy) , Modern Family (worth it for Ty Burrell alone), Moone Boy (more Chris O'Dowd!)
Netflix
All of the below are excellent . . .
Comedy: The Good Place (Kristen Bell rocks as the wrong girl in the wrong place), Rick and Morty (sc-fi animation), Bo Jack Horseman ((animated loser horse-person!), The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (so chirpy and hilarious), It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (cynical and hilarious), Brooklyn Nine-Nine (daft fun), Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee (Seinfeld meets funny folk), Friends (you know what this is!).
Drama: Black Mirror (The Twilight Zone for today), Better Call Saul (cracking prequel to Breaking Bad), Stranger Things (odd things and the 1980s), The Sinner (dark murder-mystery), Line of Duty (cracking cop drama), Doctor Foster (marital mayhem), The Crown (royal rumbles), Peaky Blinders (period gangsters), Gossip Girl (teen classic), Mindhunter (A smarter Criminal Minds), Fargo (superb TV sequel to the great movie).
