Michaela Morley and Brian O'Driscoll captured the nation's heart on Friday's Late Late Show when they appeared to talk about how they have become close friends since meeting at Temple Street Children's Hospital seven years ago.

Brian, who is an ambassador for the hospital, first met Michaela in 2011 when she was a six-year-old patient at the hospital. A photo of her looking overjoyed as the rugby star held the Heineken Cup trophy went viral at the time.

However, Michaela explained on the Late Late Show that she was celebrating having thrown a ball into the trophy, and wasn't that excited to see Brian.

"He came in with the cup and he had a little ball with him. So I threw it in and the reason I was like that was because I got it in, not because I knew him", she said laughing.

"This is an outrage!", Brian joked.

"I don't know an awful lot about rugby let me tell you that much", Michaela added.

The two have kept in touch over the years and clearly share a close bond.

Brian said: "Listen it's hard not to feel the energy and I think you feel better about yourself being in her presence", with host Ryan Tubridy agreeing "don't you just".

"We've seen each other quite a bit over the course of the past six or seven years in different capacities in the hospital, we try and coincide with hospital visits where she might be getting treatment.

"So we see enough of one another don't we", Brian asked Michaela.

"Ehh, yeah, yes we do", Michaela said.

"Is it too much?" Tubridy joked before saying, "Put the phone down Brian".

Viewers rushed to Twitter to say how much the interview touched them, saying it was "heart warming" and that Michaela is a "hero" and "an inspiration".
