Former Glee actor Mark Salling has died aged 35.

The actor, best known for his longtime role as Noah 'Puck' Puckerman on the popular show, was pronounced dead in California on Tuesday, the Los Angeles Police Department told Us Weekly.

His lawyer confirmed the news in a statement, saying: "I can confirm that Mark Salling passed away early this morning. Mark was a gentle and loving person, a person of great creativity, who was doing his best to atone for some serious mistakes and errors of judgment.

"He is survived by his mother and father, and his brother. The Salling family appreciates the support they have been receiving and asks for their privacy to be respected."

Salling was awaiting sentencing after entering a guilty plea to possession of child pornography last December. He was scheduled to be sentenced on March 7.

The actor was originally arrested in December 2015 when the police conducted a raid at his home. The following May, he was officially charged with two counts of receiving and possessing child pornography.

Salling starred in 96 episodes of Glee from 2009 to 2015. He also appeared in the films Rocky Road and Glee: the 3D Concert Movie.
