Coronation Street fans have been taking to social media to show their horror at long time character Anna Windass being found guilty of pushing Seb Franklin off a ladder.

Anna Windass, played by Debbie Rush, first appeared on the soap in 2008 and as her trial concluded on Monday night she has forged her exit from the show.

Anna found herself on trial for pushing Seb (Harry Visinoni) from a ladder, with Phelan (Connor McIntyre) having framed her for the incident.

As a devastated Anna was convicted of the crime, Phelan sat calmly in the gallery watching on.

While the verdict was not a surprise to many after Rush announced last year that she would be leaving Corrie, fans have been expressing their outrage at the injustice on their Twitter accounts.

"This is just ridiculous! Poor Anna! Phelan needs to be sent down, how many more is he going to kill," one fan tweeted.

"My heart is breaking for Anna so much," another said, while one viewer said they felt Anna "deserves better".

The official Coronation Street Twitter account shared a video message from Rush, detailing her journey on the programme and her time spent playing Anna.

"It's been so hard to walk off the cobbles and leave them behind, and I'll miss everyone millions," Rush said.

Coronation Street continues on TV3 and ITV on Wednesday at 8.30pm.
