Fair City actress Geraldine Plunkett has said she is hoping to return to Carrigstown soon in her role as Rose.

Speaking on The Ray D'Arcy Show on RTÉ One at the weekend, the former Glenroe star said she had asked to take a break when her husband, the late actor Peadar Lamb, became ill.

"When Peadar got ill I asked to be written out, and they were very considerate and very kind," she said. "I would actually be doing it at the moment, in fact, but I obviously couldn't.

"They sort of wrote me out - I hope [just] for the moment anyway!"

"Rose has gone down to Connemara to mind a friend who broke her hip," Plunkett continued, laughing. "She's still there!"

Reflecting on her 18 years playing Mary on Glenroe, Plunkett said: "People still call me Mary, you know. In fact, one woman thought I was Mary from Glenroe who had come to Fair City to play Rose - that I was really Mary!"

The stage and screen veteran was joined on The Ray D'Arcy Show by her son Marcus Lamb, who plays Fair City's current villain, Dr Oakley.
