Tributes have been paid to former Home and Away star Jessica Falkholt, whose death has been announced following a car crash which also claimed the lives of her parents, 21-year-old sister and the driver of the other vehicle.

The 29-year-old's life support was switched off in the St George Hospital in Sydney last week and she passed away on Wednesday.

She had undergone surgery and had been in a coma following the crash on St Stephen's Day in New South Wales. Her parents and sister's funerals took place last week in Sydney.

A spokesperson for the hospital said: "Jessica passed away from serious injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident on 26 December, 2017.

"The family has asked for privacy during this very difficult time."

Falkholt's parents Lars and Vivian were killed instantly in the crash with her sister Annabelle passing away three days later in hospital. The crash also killed 50-year-old Craig Whitall, who was driving the other car involved.

Jessica Falkholt played Hope Morrison on Home and Away in 2016 and was considered to be one of Australia's rising stars.

Channel Seven, the Australian broadcaster that produces Home and Away, said the cast are "heartbroken" to learn of their former co-star's passing.

"Jessica's shining talent was recognised and respected by all her cast mates and crew and her beautiful friendship treasured," a spokesman said.

"We send our sincere condolences to her extended family and friends during this difficult time."

Falkholt's agent Lisa Mann said: "Beautiful Jess was loved and treasured by her family, friends and colleagues and our sympathies are with everyone today."
