On Fair City this week, those unwittingly caught in the sinister cult become the subjects of a siege scenario which results in tragic consequences.

Trauma surgeon Dr Oakley (Marcus Lamb) is also branch manager of the Phoenix Way, the self-help group which has been causing unease among those who have some intimation of the group's shady side.

Dr Oakley's motives have not been the purest, the finances at the Carrickstown branch are not the best and he was initially sent to sort that out. He has been out in the cold recently, sidelined effectively after a series of unfortunate incidents in the power play between him on Miriam. He is seriously intent on overthrowing Miriam, the more caring presence at Phoenix Way.

Now back on the margins of scene, and engineering matters for his own proposes, he has convinced Emmet to go along with a nefarious plan through which Emmet dupes the group into locking down the O’Brien’s house.

When Eoghan comes to the house, Emmet pretends he is departing the group to get rid of him. Miriam tries and fails to find out what Oakley’s plan is. The group is shocked when they realise Oakley is back as he brandishes a flare gun to stop them leaving. A dangerous siege scenario begins which, after a series of tense twists will end tragically.

You can catch Fair City tonight, Sunday at 8pm on RTÉ One.
