Renowned Dublin actor Barry Ward - star of the RTÉ TV series Rebellion and the critically-acclaimed feature Maze - is to star in two Sky drama series.

The first of these is Britannia which is described as "an epic journey into the dark, wild and unruly world of Britain in 43 AD."

In Britannia, which is scheduled to begin on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW TV on January 18, the Imperial Roman Army has returned to crush the Celtic heart of Britannia, a mysterious land ruled by warrior women and powerful druids. The new historical epic also stars David Morrissey, Zoë Wanamaker and Mackenzie Crook.

In the second of the drama series featuring the hugely successful Irish actor, the contemporary Save Me, Ward plays Suranne Jones' on-screen husband, Barry Sawyer, a music promoter and devoted father-of-two.

All is going well until Nelly (Lennie James), the former partner of Claire (Jones) shows up accusing Barry of being responsible for the disappearance of the 13-year-old daughter he had with Claire. Father and daughter haven’t had contact in a decade, but now the only thing that matters is finding her. Save Me also stars Stephen Graham, Kerry Godliman and Jason Flemyng.

Ward is clearly delighted with both roles. "As productions, both Britannia and Save Me are worlds apart but I’m immensely proud to have starred in both alongside a stellar star cast and I’m looking forward to seeing both on screen when they air on Sky Atlantic in the New Year", he said.

Save Me will air on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW TV in February 2018.
