Gene Simmons denies assault allegations

KISS bass guitar player Gene Simmons is to appear in court facing charges of ''sexual battery, gender violence, battery and assault''.

The claims made against the musician were lodged by a radio and television broadcaster in Los Angeles Superior Court under the name Jane Doe stating that the musician had made ''unwanted, unwarranted sexual advances''.

Gene Simmons has denied the accusations.

Speaking to Ultimate Classic Rock he said: ''I intend to defend myself against any alleged charges you may have been reading about in the media. For the record, I did not assault the person making these accusations in the manner alleged in the complaint or harm her in any way. I am conferring with my lawyers with the aim of vigorously countering these allegations. And, I look forward to my day in court where the evidence will prove my innocence.''

Jane Doe's lawyer spoke to The San Bernardino Sun.

Her lawyer said: ''My client is embarrassed and humiliated by the incident with Mr. Simmons. She filed suit because she wanted to make a strong statement that this is unacceptable and she wants to see an end to this type of behaviour.''

The incident is alleged to have occurred in a restaurant owned by two band members called Rock & Brews in Highland, California.

During an interview it is alleged that the musician ''reached toward Plaintiff Doe's buttocks and touched it,'' when a photograph was being taken.

The legal papers also contain a claim that ''Defendant Simmons turned standard interview questions into sexual innuendos, which made plaintiff Doe extremely uncomfortable,''

Another claim is that the 68-year-old musician had taken her hand and ''forcefully placed it on his knee and held it on his knee'' and later ''flicked/struck'' her throat.
