Pick of the day

Strictly Come Dancing: the Final, 6.30pm, BBC One

The wait is finally over, and after 13 amazing weeks of glitter, excitement and sensational dance performances, the glamorous finale night has arrived.

Fifteen celebrities entered the ballroom, but now only the finalists remain and each couple will perform in front of the judges and to the audience at home to battle it out in the ballroom for the very last time.

The judges scores will be for guidance only and the winner will be decided by the viewers’ votes alone.

Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman will then reveal which celebrity and professional dancer the viewers have chosen to lift the famous Glitter Ball Trophy and be crowned the champions of Strictly Come Dancing 2017.

New or Returning Shows

The RTÉ Sport Awards, 9.15pm, RTÉ One

Darragh Maloney and Joanne Cantwell present the RTÉ Sport Awards 2017 live from Studio 1 in RTÉ, one of the highlights of the Irish sporting calendar.

Awards to be presented on the night include Sportsperson of the Year, Team of the Year, Manager of the Year and Young Sportsperson of the Year plus the announcement of this year’s Hall of Fame inductee.

As usual, the likes of gaelic games, football, rugby, boxing, athletics and cycling will feature. But who the ultimate winner will be is anyone’s guess.

Word of the Year, 6.00pm, Channel 4

This one-off programme explores the words that made it big in 2017.

Can you spot a 'hatfish' or a 'manfant'? Do you know the difference between a 'broflake' and a 'snowflake'? Is 'lagom' or 'lykke' your chosen path to happiness?

Dissecting the meanings of the many amazing terms that have come to prominence in the last 12 months are word fans Jo Brand, Sara Pascoe, Nish Kumar, Aisling Bea, Rik Edwards, June Sarpong and Jamie Laing.
