Roy Orbison
Roy Orbison

There’s a new documentary about the late great Roy Orbison, and it’s a cheerio to The Hairy Bikers Home for Christmas and Strictly - It Takes Two.

Pick of the day

Roy Orbison: Love Hurts, 9.30pm, BBC Four

Roy Orbison died 29 years ago but he's hardly forgotten, thanks to an incredible voice and some fantastic songs.

As one of rock 'n roll's pioneers he achieved superstar status in the 1960s, writing and releasing a series of hits such as Oh, Pretty Woman, Only the Lonely, In Dreams and Crying.

But while his professional life was full of triumph, Roy suffered terrible misfortune in his personal life, losing his wife and two of his children in successive tragedies, rebuilding his life by relying on his music to distract him from desolation.

His legacy as a beloved rock legend and a devoted father is revealed through intimate interviews with Roy Orbison's three surviving sons, featuring previously unseen home videos as Alex, Roy Jnr and Wesley Orbison discuss their late father.

New or Returning Shows

The Sweet Makers at Christmas, 9.00pm, BBC Two

Following the success of The Sweet Makers on BBC Two earlier this year, four modern confectioners will recreate the treats of Christmas past - and discover how their predecessors helped create many of the culinary festive traditions that we enjoy today.

Chocolatier Paul A Young, bespoke cake decorator Cynthia Stroud, chocolatier Diana Short and sweet consultant Andy Baxendale will use original recipes and equipment to whip up the festive bestsellers of Christmases past.

I’m a Celebrity . . . Get Me Out of Here! Coming Out, 9.00pm, TV3

After enduring up to three weeks facing the horrors of the Australian jungle while remaining in the much-sought spotlight, the celebrities get ready to embark on life back in the real world.

The programme follows each of the campers, including the new King or Queen of the Jungle, from the moment they step off the bridge to their emotional reunions with friends and family, and captures their reactions as they spend a well-deserved night in luxury.

As ever, Ant and Dec present.

Here's the gang in happier, pre-show mode:

Ending Tonight

The Hairy Bikers Home for Christmas, 3.45pm, BBC One

For the final time – for this year, anyway - The Hairy Bikers create mouth-watering festive dishes and get into the spirit of the season with a variety of special guests.

Astrologer and TV personality Russell Grant joins the boys to cook up some lobster mac and cheese, turkey saltimbocca with game chips, a mont blanc chestnut dessert.

Strictly - It Takes Two, 6.00pm, BBC Two

For the final time, Zoe Ball rounds up all the action from last weekend, as Strictly Come Dancing prepares for the weekend’s Grand Finale.

She’ll be chatting to the celebrities and their dancing partners who have made it this far, as they prepare for the big dance-off.

Given the time of year and all that, a special music guest will be popping in to perform a festive tune.
