***Spolier Alert***

Corrie fans are up in arms following a tweet by the official Twitter account for the show which dropped a major bombshell - without warning - that Gary Windass is to be killed-off next week.

Speculation had been mounting that Gary was due to come to a grisly end in an upcoming storyline, with reports claiming that his untimely demise will rock his family to the core.

Soap watchers have suggested that Gary's loved ones will hear that he's been killed while working in Ukraine when a terrorist bombing leaves no survivors.

So far Corrie officials have remained quiet as to whether this twist is true or not, but this tweet suggests that either way, Gary will meet his maker soon.

The tweet said: "A devastated Sarah finally accepts the news of Gary's death, Luke confronts Rana and things get worse for Robert. "

The pictures show David Platt receiving some shock news on the phone, before comforting his grief-stricken sister Sarah in a later scene.

Another spoiler image shows Gary's mum Anna Windass breaking down in prison after being informed of her son's tragic death.

Actress Tina O'Brien said her character Sarah finds it impossible to accept the terrible news.

She said: "Sarah doesn't believe it. She thinks there has been a mistake or that it is someone else because, although she's upset, she feels like if it was real she would somehow know and she doesn't feel that overwhelming grief, so she has convinced herself that it isn't true.

"She obviously knew it was very dangerous but this is her worst nightmares confirmed."

Sarah Platt finally accepts that Gary is dead

O'Brien, who has starred in Corrie since 1999, said Sarah will cling to the hope that it isn't Gary who has died as only one body has been found.

"Sarah thinks that because there were loads of men out there that it still might not be Gary but David explains that they found a St Christopher, and that's when she breaks down because she knows that she gave him a St Christopher just before he left", she said.

The soap star said that Sarah is "absolutely devastated".

"She thinks it's the end of the world", O'Brien added.

Coronation Street will airs these scenes next week on TV3.
