Irish actress Saoirse Ronan will present the hit US show Saturday Night Live on December 2 and her music guest will be U2.

Ronan's turn as a host on the top-rated and influential show was announced on last Saturday's edition of the programme, which was hosted by Chance the Rapper, with music guest Eminem.

SNL's comedy sketches, which lampoon contemporary culture and politics, are performed by a large and varying cast. Alec Baldwin's almost weekly satire of US president Donald Trump have recently brought the show some of its best reviews of it's 43-year history.

Comedians who have appeared on show over the years have included Will Ferrell, Jimmy Fallon, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Kristen Wiig, Jane Curtin, the  late John Belushi, Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, Chevy Chase, Bill Murray and Mike Myers.
