Leon Mallet has become the third contestant to exit The X Factor 2017.

The 22-year-old singer, who re-entered the competition as a wild card in Louis Walsh's boy's category, performed a rendition of Daft Punk's Get Lucky on Saturday night's live show.

However, it didn't impress the judges and viewers as intended, with Simon Cowell labelling his performance "puppety".

Mallet subsequently received the lowest number of public votes and was eliminated.

He said afterwards: "Sharing the stage with such talent, I feel humbled and blessed. Thanks to the public for voting me back and giving me this opportunity."

This means there are just two acts left in Walsh's boys category. Cowell still has his full line-up, including the Saturday Night Champion for the second week in a row, Rak-Su. They will compete against Sunday night's champion in a sing off.

Saturday's show saw Simon Cowell return to the judging panel. He had been absent from the show after being admitted to hospital when he took a tumble in his London home last week.

Cowell was accused by viewers of throwing one of his acts "under the bus" are he criticised show opener Jack & Joel.

Sunday's show will see Nicole Scherzinger's Overs and Sharon Osbourne's Girls compete for their places in the singing competition.

Watch The X Factor on Sunday at 7pm on ITV and TV3.
