Simon Rimmer is the fifth celebrity to leave Strictly Come Dancing as he faced Mollie King in the dreaded dance-off in this weekend’s spooktacular Halloween Special.

It was fright night as the judges’ scores were combined with the results of the viewers’ votes to decide the lowest scoring two couples facing the dance off. This weekend it was celebrity chef Rimmer and his professional partner Karen Clifton; and Saturdays singer Mollie King and her partner AJ Pritchard.

Both couples performed their routines again; Simon and Karen did their Viennese Waltz to Delilah by Tom Jones, and Mollie and AJ did their Cha Cha to Better The Devil You Know by Kylie Minogue in a bid to impress the judges and remain in the competition.

After both couples had danced a second time, the judges delivered their verdicts.

Craig Revel Horwood chose to save Mollie and AJ, saying: "Well, I loved this routine; I think it was more technically demanding also and, simply put, danced better, and that is Mollie and AJ."

Darcey Bussell chose to save Mollie and AJ and said: "Well the couple I would like to save just because they had a more competent performance is Mollie and AJ."

Bruno Tonioli also chose to save Mollie and AJ. He said: "I would like to pick the couple that really did, I think, the better performance in regards of content and performance value. And for that reason I would save Mollie and AJ."

Head Judge Shirley Ballas agreed with her fellow judges and said she also would have saved Mollie and AJ.

When asked by host Tess Daly if he had enjoyed his time on the show, Simon said, "Do you know it has been the most amazing experience ever, you know, from the minute I walked in through the door. The Strictly experience is just so positive, every single person involved in it is so positive.

"And like, all of that lot up there, all the rest of the class of 2017, are just magnificent people. All the pro dancers are amazing. When I danced the Waltz to You’ll Never Walk Alone and it touched people, I will never ever forget that; our Charleston last week was a giggle, it was brilliant."

Karen added, "A complete beginner but you know what you’ve grown to be such a great performer and I’ve loved every second really and it’s been a privilege. And thank you for all the food!"

Sunday’s results show also featured a musical performance from pop group Steps singing Scared of the Dark.

The remaining ten couples will take to the dance floor again next week when Strictly Come Dancing returns on BBC One on Saturday evening at 6.50pm.

Simon and Karen will be joining Zoe Ball for their first exclusive televised interview live on Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two on Monday, October 30 at 6.30pm on BBC Two.
