David Walliams is to be honoured with the International Recognition Award at the Irish Book Awards in Dublin next month.
Walliams has sold over 20 million copies of his children's books, with his works being translated into 53 languages.
His books Blob and World’s Worst Children 2 are Irish best-sellers, with his next release Bad Dad, out on November 2.
Speaking about the honour, Walliams described it as "delightful news" saying, "I am so pleased that my friends in Ireland have given me this huge honour. I love writing books for children and will continue doing so for as long as people want to read them."
Previous recipients of the International Recognition Award include Jilly Cooper, Bill Bryson and Jeffrey Archer.
The shortlist of nominations for the Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards 2017 will be announced on November 2.
The awards will take place on November 28 in The Clayton Hotel, Burlington Roadand will be broadcast on RTÉ One the following day at 9.30pm. Keelin Shanley will host the event, which sees the number of categories increased to 15 this year.
