It is set during the summer of 1983 in northern Italy. Elio Perlman (Timothée Chalamet) is a 17-year-old American-Italian boy who spends his days in his family's seventeenth century villa flirting with his friend Marzia and transcribing music.
One day, Oliver (Armie Hammer), a charming, 24-year-old American scholar working on his doctorate, arrives as the annual summer intern. Amid the sun-drenched setting, a passionate relationship is sparked between Elio and Oliver that will change their lives forever.
