RTÉ weather presenter Nuala Carey says she is delighted with a special shout-out from actor Gerard Butler and admits the video was "a lovely surprise".

Butler is currently busy promoting his upcoming disaster movie, Geostorm, but the Scottish actor made time to squeeze in an awesome message for the RTÉ weather team.

Speaking to RTÉ Entertainment, Nuala joked about how she is thrilled that the 47-year-old actor knows who she is, and applauded him for pronouncing her name perfectly.

"I love Gerard Butler! He is an incredible actor and I've always followed his career. I just couldn't believe the video - Gerard Butler knows me, kind of," she laughed.

"It was just such a lovely surprise. I was just thrilled because he actually personally says my name and fair play to him 'Nuala' isn't a name that's known outside of Ireland, but he said it perfectly.

"I was delighted with that and it's great for all of the weather team, it's a little bit of recognition for us from Hollywood."

Geostorm is a disaster science-fiction movie set in the near future when climate-controlling satellites malfunction and release small disaster-starting pods all over the world.

Jake Lawson (Gerard Butler) and his other fellow astronauts head into space to prevent the satellites from programming the small pods into creating a storm of epic proportions.

Geostorm blows into cinemas nationwide from Friday, October 20.
