West End star and The Voice UK finalist Lucy O'Byrne from Dublin will play the lead role of Maria in The Sound of Music at Dublin's Bord Gais Energy Theatre this Christmas.
Lucy will probably be best known to fans of the BBC's version of The Voice, where she competed on Team Will.i.am and finished runner-up to Stevie McCrorie in the 2015 season of the singing competition.
She joins another Irish singer as soprano Celine Byrne will make her musical theatre debut in the role of Mother Abess in this Bill Kenwright production of The Sound of Music.
O'Byrne is no stranger to the role of Maria having previously won rave reviews for her performance in the 2016 UK touring production of The Sound of Music.
She was even hailed as "quite possibly the best Maria since Julie Andrews herself" by The Scotsman.
Following that tour she won the role of Fantine in Les Misérables, which she performed in London's West End until earlier this year.
