Little Hours singer on great terms with former bandmate

Little Hours' John Doherty has opened up about going solo and says there is no bad blood between him and former bandmate Ryan McCloskey.

McCloskey, who was one half of the founding duo behind the Donegal indie pop band, revealed he had played his last show with the outfit at Electric Picnic in September.

At the time, the Killybegs native issued a statement saying he was leaving the band on good terms and is embarking on a career move.

"I want to be very clear that there’s been no falling out between me and John, this is just a career move for me. It feels like a good time to try out something different and I need to take some time out to do that." he said.

Speaking to RTÉ Entertainment, Doherty says McCloskey's exit makes sense and promised fans that there is still "so much more to come" from the band.

"There's a few of the guys that play with me from home as well that have always been a part of it, so there is still a gang of us that are involved in Little Hours. I'm just sort of taking the lead at the moment." Doherty said.

The singer admits that while it will be weird not having McCloskey around anymore, he's glad his long-time collaborator is getting to do what he wants.

"It's all good. We were friends long before we were in the band. I completely get where he is coming from. He just wants to go and travel and write for other people and things like that." Doherty said.

"Honestly, it just makes sense because he wanted to do other things, and that's fine. I just can't wait for other people to hear the new music and see what they think of it. There's so much more to come."

"The live set up has changed a bit now. I'm actually playing guitar for a few songs rather than just playing piano songs. I'm playing a mixture of both and I'm very excited about that. I'm looking forward to it." he added.

With a string of festivals and a sold-out Irish tour under their belt, Doherty revealed his hopes for the band. "I've played the Olympia a few times as a support act but I'd love to headline the Olympia.

"Obviously, I'd love to take over the world as well," he laughed. "But that's more of a short-term goal I'd love to do."
