Game of Thrones stars Kit Harington and Rose Leslie have announced their engagement with a post in The Times on Wednesday.

The couple met on the set of the hit fantasy drama, with Harington's character Jon Snow and Leslie's character Ygritte sharing an on-screen romance before Leslie left the show in 2014.

They began their off-screen relationship in 2012 and bought a home together in January of this year in East Anglia in the UK.

Under the names Mr K.C. (Kit Catseby) Harington and Miss R.E. (Rose Eleanor) Leslie, The Times notice read: "The engagement is announced between Kit, younger son of David and Deborah Harington of Worcestershire, and Rose, middle daughter of Sebastian and Candy Leslie of Aberdeenshire."

Reports emerged on Tuesday that the couple, both 30 years old, were set to tie the knot.

"They're yet to set a date, but told friends and family last week that they've got engaged," The Sun quoted a source as saying.

"Kit's known for ages he's wanted to marry Rose but he wanted them to get a house and settle down a bit first."

"After moving in together in January he felt it was the right time to take the next step," the source added.

Harington and Leslie have kept their relationship relatively private, but the 30-year-old actor previously said of their relationship, "If you're already attracted to someone, and then they play your love interest in the show, it becomes very easy to fall in love."

The seventh and penultimate season of Game of Thrones concluded in August, with a final series release date yet to be announced, but production is underway.
