Don Williams, one of the biggest country music stars of the 1970s and 1980s, has died aged 78.
He was nicknamed "The Gentle Giant" because of his imposing height, had a soothing voice, and was very modest.
The singer was best known for songs including I Believe in You, Tulsa Time, and It Must Be Love over the course of a 50-year career.
His publicist released a statement saying that he died of an undisclosed illness.
In 2010 Mr Williams work was recognised by being inducted into Country Music Hall of Fame.
He announced his retirement from touring with a statement last year saying "time to hang up my hat and enjoy some quiet time at home."
