It's the finale of the BBC's bonkers drama Top of the Lake: China Girl, while Blathnaid Treacy sets up the weekend with Electric Picnic Preview
Pick of the day
Top of the Lake: China Girl, 9.00pm, BBC Two
Despite turning into something like an Australian tribute to Monty Python's Flying Circus, the second season of Jane Campion's murder mystery is great fun, thanks to a super cast, some utterly surreal characters and scenarios.
In the season finale, Robin and Pyke are plunged into a nightmare when Miranda reports that someone has been shot dead at Silk 41 - and Mary has been taken hostage by the gunman to Bondi Beach.
At the crime scene, the police are getting nowhere with a grief-stricken Mamasan Dang and the girls. Meanwhile, crucial security footage has been wiped, man of the moment Puss has disappeared, and there’s no dead body.
Time for a spot of tennis, I'd imagine.
The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice, 10.00pm, Channel 4
Here's another nibble at The Great British Bake Off. Each week host Jo Brand chats to a panel of celebrity Bake Off fans, looking at all the goings-on from the tent.
Offering the best and the worst moments from the latest episode, there's exclusive footage from inside the tent, analysis from special guests and an interview with the baker who left that week.
First up, Jo is joined by brand new GBBO judge Prue Leith, as well as a panel of famous Bake Off fans who'll give their take on the 12 new bakers and their debut bakes.
Educating Greater Manchester, 9.00pm, Channel 4
We're all familiar with the way Irish education does and doesn't work – so what's it like across The Irish Sea?
The series that explores what life's like for UK school students and teachers returns, at a new school. Harrop Fold Secondary in Salford, Greater Manchester is at the heart of a changing community, dealing every day with everything that that throws at them.
In this first episode, the pupils at Harrop Fold are comparing Trump's hairstyle with Hitler's, writing rude words on the back of a delivery van, and adjusting to an influx of students from a range of foreign countries.
Football Focus: Transfer Deadline Day Special, 10.45pm, BBC One
Dan Walker and the BBC's Football Focus team round up all the major transfers on deadline day – the most over-hyped 24 hours in football, and that's saying something - with news and reaction from around Britain, where the big clubs have way more money than sense.
Electric Picnic Preview, 11.00pm, RTÉ2
Right. You've got the sleeping bag and a change of clothes packed. There's a slab of beer in the fridge. Someone else is bringing the tent. Eating is no longer an option. You're all set for the Electric Picnic.
Presented by Blathnaid Treacy, this here's the ideal build-up the festival atmosphere on the eve of Electric Picnic, and ahead of Saturday's live coverage of the event on RTÉ2, when she teams up with Eoghan McDermott.
It includes reports capturing the festival colour, as well as acoustic performances by the likes of Picture This and Gavin James, while main stage highlights including Bell X1, NAS and The 1975.
