The 29-year-old actor, who played Chris Harrington in the popular Australian soap for three years up until last year, said he is starting aggressive treatment.
Taking to Instagram, Ruffo shared a photograph of himself in a beanie hat, captioned: "So i have the news. It was a bit of a shock and i've got an interesting journey ahead and a bit of a battle.
"I am starting aggressive treatment for the next few months to fight the diagnosis of brain cancer. Please stay positive for me and ill try to update you guys on my progress xx"
Earlier this month the X Factor Australia contestant underwent emergency surgery to remove a brain tumour after going to the doctors over migraines.
Shortly after his operation he posted a picture from his hospital bed doing a thumbs up. He later posted a close up of his stitches.
Ruffo played Chris in Summer Bay between 2013 and 2016. He bowed out of the soap following the death of his character's partner Hannah Wilson.
