Hollywood A-listers Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba spoke to RTÉ Entertainment ahead of the release of their new movie, The Dark Tower, and revealed that they can't wait to return to Ireland to visit Johnny Foxes and enjoy a warm Guinness!
They may play sworn enemies in the latest blockbuster to hit cinemas this summer, The Dark Tower, but Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba share an affinity when it comes to their grá for Ireland.
Speaking to RTÉ Entertainment in New York, Elba, who plays gunslinger Roland Deschain in the first big screen adaptation of Stephen King’s fantasy novels, revealed that he is a big fan of a pint of stout and has a hankering for a certain Dublin pub.
"I want to come back to Dublin so bad," revealed the actor, DJ and rally driver.
"I want to go to that restaurant Johnny Foxes and have a nice warm Guinness."
McConaughey, who plays his nemesis, The Man In Black, was quick to inquire as to "Which side of the Liffey is that?"
Once Elba had pointed him in the direction of the Dublin mountains, McConaughey also shared that he can’t wait to return to this fair isle, as soon as his schedule allows.
"Yeah I am going to come back. Right now I am going where my work takes me, thats really been our family vacations as well," lamented the father of three.
"I don’t remember the last time we took a vacation that was not work related. So hopefully a job will take me back there."
McConaughey, whose family hails from Cavan and Monaghan, added: "I've got a lot of people that I haven’t seen there in a while, you know who you are."
The Dark Tower lands in cinemas on August 18
