The production studio behind How I Met Your Mother is refusing to give up on a spin-off and is going for a third attempt.
20th Century Fox Television has already developed two separate versions of the gender-swap version, called How I Met Your Dad, in which a mother shares the story of meeting her husband with their teenage kids.
The first attempt went as far as filming a pilot starring Greta Gerwig before it was scrapped by CBS, while a second attempt - from This Is Us writers Elizabeth Berger and Isaac Aptake – was ultimately shelved because of their busy work schedules.
On Tuesday (August 8), Fox chairman Dana Walden confirmed to Deadline that the studio is going back to the drawing board with different writers.
"They will be starting from scratch," Walden said. "It's one that's been slowly cooked. If it's the right idea and the right execution, we'll take that."
