The Saturdays singer Mollie King has been named as the first celebrity contestant for the new season of Strictly Come Dancing.

Speaking on BBC Radio she said that the show is "something that I've always said I wanted to do. I've always watched it with my family and it looked so fun."

She warned other contestants; "I'm very competitive so watch out, contestants" and added that she intends to work hard at her performances on Strictly Come Dancing.

King (30) said that she had begged for a chance to be involved in the programme. "I can't actually believe I'm lucky enough to be taking part in it this year," she said.

"I'm literally so excited to learn Latin and ballroom dancing, and of course I can't wait to get into the sequins too. It's going to be a lot of hard work but I'm ready for the challenge."

She said that she told her Saturdays' bandmate Frankie Bridge and close family that she had been selected but had to keep it a secret.

King launched her solo career when she signed with Island records two years ago.
