Modern Family fans may have been delighted to hear that there would be two more series of the hit show but the show's co-creator has now hinted that season 10  will be the last.

The Emmy award winning mockumentary series which offers an honest perspective of an extended straight family, gay family, multicultural family, and traditional family who all live side by side has a huge following.

Speaking to online publication Deadline, Co-creator/Executive Producer of the show Steve Levitan said that, "Our original goal was to just stay on the air, but after a while we thought we may be in control our own fate, and 10 sounded like a nice round number."

When asked how the Modern Family will end, he said: "We haven’t had that exact conversation yet how we want to end the show episode-wise, those discussions will start in earnest as the writers start mapping out the second part of the current ninth season. We’ve talked about areas that we want to go and tonally what we want to do.

"I think we will end the show the way we started it in the pilot, with a big family event," Levitan added, declining to elaborate what that event might be.
