Famke Janssen's back on How to Get Away with Murder, while Insecure and Top Gear both make a welcome return

Pick of the day

How to Get Away with Murder, 9.00pm, Sky Living

This third season of Shonda Rhimes' wilfully confusing murder mystery series starring the superb Viola Davis is the easiest to follow so far. I'm not sure whether that's a good or a bad thing, but I almost know what's going on here.

Famke Janssen (Jean Grey in the original X-Men movies) shows up again in this episode as Annalise's former lover and no-nonsense death row attorney Eve Rothlo.

When the Philadelphia Bar Association disciplinary board discovers some damaging information about Annalise, it puts the fate of a young client in jeopardy.

Meanwhile, Frank commits a shocking act that puts someone close to him in a difficult place. After all, loose lips sink relationships.

New tonight

Insecure, 10.35pm, Sky Atlantic

Back for a second season, this cracking HBO comedy shows the life of a twenty-something black woman that swaps stereotyping for some sharp wit and observation.

Following their breakup last season, both Issa (creator and star Issa Rae) and Lawrence attempt to move on, but each has their own struggle to contend with in their lives.

Issa finds herself immersed in a new work assignment, and Lawrence finds himself at a crossroads as he adjusts to his new living arrangement.

Meanwhile, Issa’s best friend Molly has troubles of her own as she questions her own worth at work.

Also starting today:

Top Gear, 8.00pm, RTÉ2 With Chris Evans gone, Matt LeBlanc, Chris Harris and Rory Reid continue with the post-Clarkson era.

Ending tonight

Pride and Prejudice: The People's History of LGBTQ Britain, 9.00pm, BBC4

This two-part series tells the stories of ordinary people from across the UK, as they share the objects that have defined their lives since homosexuality was partially decriminalised in 1967.

This second episode looks specifically at the last 30 years, when many public figures took it upon themselves to stand up for LGBTQ rights, and features the freedom-fighting Sisters Of Perpetual Indulgence; the writer behind TV's steamiest lesbian kiss and a Muslim man who set up an LGBT support group for South East Asians.

Also ending tonight:

Real, Fake or Unknown, 11.05pm, Channel 4 Topics in the spotlight include a futuristic head shave that is threatening every barber shop on Earth.

Don't Miss

Top of the Lake: China Girl, 9.00pm, BBC Two

As their murder investigation leads Robin and Miranda deeper into the dark side of Sydney's sex industry, a startling revelation sends the case in a new direction. And Robin's first meeting with her daughter Mary is put into jeopardy by Mary's adoptive mother Julia.

Robin and Miranda continue their murder investigation, with pathologist Ray conducting an autopsy that will reveal more than expected about the young woman he case-names China Girl.

Realising that the young woman was a sex worker, Robin enquires into a series of brothels in Sydney, unaware that one of these brothels is home to Puss, the boyfriend of her daughter Mary.
