John Heard, the actor best known for playing the father in the Home Alone movies, has died at the age of 72.
Heard was confirmed dead by the Santa Clara Medical Examiner's office in California on Friday. The coroner is investigating the cause of his death.
The Emmy nominee had reportedly undergone minor back surgery earlier this week and was said to be recovering at the hotel.
TMZ reports: "Police were called to the hotel for a report of a medical emergency, but he was pronounced dead on the scene.
"The coroner is investigating, and cause of death is unclear at this time."

In addition to playing Peter McCallister in Home Alone, Heard had appeared in numerous other films and television series, including The Sopranos and Miami Vice.
He was also seen in the movies Beaches, Pelican Brief, and the first Sharknado movie.
The actor was reportedly still filming a starring role in the movie Broome Street Boys, according to his IMDb page.
Heard had three marriages including one to actress Margot Kidder. He is survived by three children including one with former partner Melissa Leo.
