Taron Egerton: reports that he will play Elton John in new biopic

Actor Taron Egerton is rumoured to be taking the Elton John role in the musician’s long-anticipated biopic titled Rocketman.

Egerton is the favorite to take on the role previously rumored to be Tom Hardy’s, according to a Daily Mail report.

The proposed film takes up the story after the man born Reginald Dwight wins a piano scholarship. Ironically, the singer became so successful over four decades that by 2004 he could put his name to his own £1 million scholarship to support underprivileged students at the Royal Academy of Music, where he trained for six years. The singer himself won a scholarship to the academy more than 30 years ago at 11 years of age.

There is said to be a script already written by Lee Hall.

Principal photography set to kick-off sometime by the end of the year. Rocketman is a collaboration between John’s Rocket Pictures and Matthew Vaughn’s Marv Films.

Born in 1989 in Cheshire, Egerton is best known for the films Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014), Sing (2016) and Eddie the Eagle (2016).
