Ricky Gervais was one happy visitor to the Emerald Isle over the weekend after he enjoyed a memorable performance at Dublin's 3Arena.

The comedian, who celebrated his 56th birthday on Sunday, rose to fame with mockumentary series The Office, performed to a sold-out crowd on Saturday night.

It was his biggest Irish audience to date, and he described the show as the "best gig of the tour".

"Dublin has done it again," he tweeted. "Jumped straight to the top of the leader board for best gig of the tour! Cheers."

Gervais was spotted around Dublin on Sunday taking in the sun.
