Bette Midler's acceptance speech at Sunday's Tony Awards has gone viral after the acting legend refused to leave the stage until her four-minute delivery was over.

The 71-year-old Broadway legend, who won Best Actress in a Musical for her role in Hello, Dolly!, was in the middle of delivering an epic thank you speech when the orchestra began to wrap her up.

Bearing in mind it was Midler's first Tony Award in 43 years, she naturally had hundreds a few people to thank.

"Shut that crap off!" she said, silencing the music and continuing her speech as the audience applauded and cheered loudly.

Midler ended her speech by giving her thanks to the Broadway stars across history - including original Hello., Dolly! performers Carole Channing and Pearl Bailey.

The veteran actress, who was treated to a standing ovation by the crowd, continued to share her appreciation and love for the award backstage.

Midler last won a special Tony for her performance in Clams on the Half Shell Revue in 1974 but she managed to keep that acceptance speech under two minutes.
