EastEnders fans are set for heart-rending scenes on Monday night as Jack Branning prepares to say goodbye to stepson Matthew.

The widower, played by Scott Maslen, has been struggling to look after Matthew since the death of wife Ronnie (Samantha Womack) at their New Year wedding.

Jack's wife Ronnie (Samantha Womack, front) and sister-in-law Roxy (Rita Simons, driving) died in EastEnders' New Year tearjerker

Matthew's biological father Charlie Cotton (Declan Bennett) has returned to Albert Square, seeking to bring Matthew to live with him in Ireland.

In Friday night's episode, viewers saw Jack agree to Charlie's plan and on Monday, Charlie calls to Jack's to collect Matthew's belongings.

With tears in his eyes, Jack begins handing over Matthew's toys, but despite Charlie's reassurances that he will look after the child, fans are speculating that Jack may change his mind about letting him go.

The answer will be revealed on BBC One and RTÉ One on Monday at 8pm.
