Irish Poldark heartthrob Aidan Turner has revealed that he struggles to perfect his character's "posh British accent".

The 33-year-old actor, who has played the Cornish captain Ross Poldark in the much-loved BBC period drama since 2015, admits that he finds it hard to watch himself on the show as he's aware of his accent slipping.

"It's like a posh British accent, received pronunciation kind of thing," Turner said.

"It's not always on point really. That's why it's quite difficult to watch sometimes, you hear it slipping quite a bit."

However, the Dublin star added that he just has to "get on with it" and not think about it too much.

The Clondalkin-born star went on to pour water on fan's hopes that he might go topless again for the upcoming third season of the show.

The actor got pulses racing in the first series with that now-iconic shirtless scything scene, while the second season saw him lose his top while mining.

Unluckily for viewers, it sounds like third time will not be the charm as Turner thinks "the clothes stay on this year."

"Maybe there's some topless sleeping... I don't know. I honestly, I swear to God I can't remember." he admitted.

The new series of Poldark begins on BBC One in June, following on from the events of the last series which saw Elizabeth (Heida Reed) pregnant, although it was unclear if the father of her baby is former lover Poldark or her husband George Warleggan (Jack Farthing).
