U2 drummer Larry Mullen is making a guest appearance on Alice Cooper's first album in six years.

Mullen will guest star alongside ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons and Deep Purple's bassist Roger Glover on Paranormal, which is released on July 28.

Cooper recorded the album in Nashville with the original Alice Cooper Band and long-time collaborator Bob Ezrin.

Metal journalist Eddie Trunk of The Trunk Nation Show fame suggested recruiting Larry to work on the School's Out hit maker's new album and Cooper has said Mullen had a surprising way to prepare for the collaboration - asking to see the lyrics of the songs he was working on.

"I play to the lyrics, I don’t play to the bass," the drummer said, according to Cooper.

Cooper liked Larry's technique: "And I said, `that is so cool, just the idea that you’re interpreting the lyrics on the drums. It totally makes the album another album.'"

Cooper plays Dublin's Olympia Theatre on November 8 and 9.
