US angst rockers The National have announced details of their new album and a return to Ireland with gigs in Cork and Dublin.
The five-piece from Ohio, who have a fervently loyal Irish fanbase, release their seventh studio album Sleep Well Beast on September 8 on 4AD Records and kick off their world tour at Cork Opera House's Sounds From a Safe Harbour on September 16 followed by a two night stand at Vicar Street in Dublin on September 17 and 18.
The band have also unveiled the music video for The System only Dreams in Total Darkness, the lead single from the new album.
Sleep Well Beast is The National's first full-length album since A Lot of Sorrow in 2015 and frontman Matt Berninger has hinted last year that the album has a "very dark" sound that may surprise some fans.
The National have built up a very strong following in Ireland since their debut shows in Auntie Annie’s in Belfast, the Cobblestone in Dublin, and the Triskel in Cork in December 2002.
The band have been frequent visitors to Ireland ever since with shows at Oxegen, Electric Picnic, Dublin’s Olympia, the O2, the Mandela Hall in Belfast, and Live at the Marquee in Cork.
The full track listing for Sleep Well Beast is Nobody Else Will Be There, Day I Die, Walk It Back, The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness, Born to Beg, Turtleneck, Empire Line, I’ll Still Destroy You, Guilty Party, Carin at the Liquor Store, Dark Side of the Gym, Sleep Well Beast.
