Country singer Loretta Lynn is expected to make a full recovery after suffering a stroke at her home on Thursday night.

According to Digital Spy, the 85-year-old singer is expected to make a full recovery in hospital in Nashville.

The stroke occurred in the middle of a tour. Lynn was due to perform in North Carolina on Friday night.

The singer, who was played by Sissy Spacek in the 1980 biopic Coal Miner's Daughter, collaborated with Jack White of The White Stripes on her 2004 album Van Lear Rose.

Her albums have appeared at regular intervals and last year saw the release of Full Circle, which was co-produced by John Carter Cash.

Spacek won an Oscar for her portrayal of the Lynn in the biopic and the film was adapted as a Broadway play in 2012, with New Girl star Zooey Deschanel playing the part of the country legend.
