Barbara Windsor has promised that the upcoming biopic of her life will not hold anything back about her life story.
The film is called Babs and will explore the EastEnders and Carry On star's London childhood, her difficult relationships with her father and then ex-husband Ronnie Knight, as well as her rise to fame with the Carry On crew.
Barbara Windsor will be played in her twenties by Jaime Winstone and in her fifties by Samantha Spiro, while two younger actresses will play her during her school and teenage years.
The BBC biopic is not the first attempt at telling her rags-to-riches life story, but it was former EastEnders writer Tony Jordan who she ultimately trusted to make it.
"It had always worried me," she said in an interview with Radio Times. "But Tony Jordan struck a chord when he said, 'I want to get behind the giggle and the wiggle'.
"What I wanted was for the story to be true and reflect what my life has been and what moulded me to be the lady I am today."
Windsor added that she hopes Babs shows the "real me", as her past "for better or worse" has shaped the successful actress she's become.
"It hasn't always been easy and, like most people, my own journey has been full of highs and lows," she said. "I've made mistakes and in equal measures had some great successes. But I'm proud to say I've always been honest about who I am and what I've done."
Babs will be broadcast on BBC One this Sunday May 7 at 8.00pm.
