Dave Bautista has said he felt "embarrassed" by his Guardians of the Galaxy makeover and says when it came to costume changes Zoe Saldana and Karen Gillan "had it way worse".

Speaking to RTÉ Entertainment about the preparation involved in getting into character to play Drax the Destroyer, Bautista says he had it way easier than the girls.

"Karen [Gillan] and Zoe [Saldana] had it so much worse than I did. I feel embarrassed even talking about it," he laughed.

"It only took an hour and a half for my make up - and that was on a bad day. Typically, it took about an hour and fifteen minutes.

"It's just layers of paint and then these prosthetic transfers that they put on me and they stick to me like glue. They really adhere and can be a bit abrasive and tough to get off.

Surprisingly, it doesn't take Drax the Destroyer long to look this good

The former professional wrestler admits that the A-list cast including Chris Pratt,  Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker and Karen Gillan felt like old friends making the sequel to the popular film.

"We actually became really close on the first movie but stepping into the second one, it felt like had just know each other forever, and as if we had grown up together," he said. "We were just so tight-knit and there was such a strong chemistry between us."

Friends forever: The Guardians cast are closer than ever

"It was really easy to step into this because now, not only do we know each other as performers, but James Gunn knows us as performers, characters and people. So him writing for us knowing how we would interact with each other was just brilliant.

"It's just one of those things that we take those lines and bounce them off each other and because our chemistry is so strong, and we know each other so well, that it really translates on the film and people sense it subconsciously.

"It makes sense to them and they can see that we are connected and we have a tight chemistry," he added.
