Line of Duty star Scott Reid has opened up about his demanding role in the Dublin production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, saying he lost two stone while rehearsing the play.
The award-winning production, which is based on the 2003 novel by Mark Hadden, is running in the Bord Gais Energy Theatre in Dublin until this Saturday, April 29.
Reid, who stars in season four of the hit BBC crime drama Line of Duty alongside Thandie Newton, is playing the role of Christopher Boone, a teenage boy with Asperger's Syndrome who investigates the murder of his neighbour's large black poodle.
22-year-old Scottish Reid stars alongside acclaimed Irish theatre actress Lucianne McEvoy, who plays Christopher's mentor at school, in the production.

Speaking to Nina Epifanova from RTÉ Entertainment, Reid said: "The role is physically demanding for about 10 of us in the company. [We] do a lot of core lifting, we went through a kind of physical transformation as a company. We did circuit training and yoga. I myself shed about two stone, it was hugely demanding.
"But at the same time, it's a really delicate bit of art this show, it's very soft, it's very tender."
Reid also said that working with Thandie Newton on Line of Duty was a great learning experience.
"She’s a Hollywood star and it was great to watch her work on set." he said.

Irish actress McEvoy has been based in the UK for almost 15 years but she still hasn't lost her accent.
"Although I still have this accent I look at my Euros and count them out because I’m still used to the pound." she joked.
McEvoy also said she is thrilled to be back in her home city of Dublin, which she left at the age of 23. During the play's tour in Ireland she is more than happy to catch up with all the people back at home.

"I'm based in the UK with my family now but it's a joy to come back and work in Ireland. We tour around the UK and you play to huge big houses and then you go back to your digs, and I don't know anyone in the audience," she said.
"So to come to Dublin, and literally every night, every matinee, I've got a list on my phone of people who are in. It's a great opportunity to catch up with folk that I trained with, with teachers, with my family and friends.
"So it's a really social week here." she added.

With such major roles it wouldn’t be surprising to see Reid making a move to Hollywood one of these days, but the young actor is very humble about it.
"For me it's one week at a time, let's get through Dublin and then see what happens!" he said with a laugh.
"You never know, but I can’t have my head get too big".
"She won’t let me." he joked, pointing at McEvoy.
